Texas is a British band formed in the late 1980's in Glasgow - Scotland. The name, Texas was taken from the title of Wim Wenders' film "Paris-Texas" as members of the band, were influenced by music of "Rye Cooder" that was featured in that film. |

the beginning
I don't exactly remember which of Texas' songs I heard first , but I always remember this sentence which the disc jockey said: "Texas, but they are from Scotland". It was late 1997 or 1998.
But it was in 2001 that I really found the real Texas. Album after another caught me and I liked them more.
I like Sharleen, her boyish style and yet has attractions of a lady. I'm not much informed and a follower of the latest news, guest appearance like the ones celebs go. B as far as I know - at least I think so - she's different to many so-called counterparts who do anything to remain in the spotlight. Maybe I'm not 100% right but to a great degree I thhink I am!
What I really enjoy about Sharleen is her sweet Scottish accent, of course beside her singing! Don't laugh if you are thinking what a nuts I am! I just enjoy hearing her speaking normally. Her accent attracts and interests me. The intonation in her speaking and the emphasising she gives to words and the cheeful tone in her voice. Whenever I listen to sme few interviews I have, I cannot get everything she says! LOL! but I try to and keep smiling!!!!
The sound of guitar in Texas' songs especially those in early albums like "Southside" and "Mothers Heaven" and their style is very attracting. Consider "Beliefs" in 'Mothers Heaven" It's great! I think as I have heard Sharleen said in an interview, they were influenced by Rye Cooder's works.
There was a three or four-year gap between Texas' 1990's albums and "Careful What You Wish For" in 2003. It's kind of being played in another atmosphere, kind of different to the previous ones to me. But I like that one too But "Red Book" is a masterpiece! It's a combination of everythingTexas had made in years of working and making music. It's a great album. (Think how Sharleen pronounced Great ;-) )
After "Red Book" was released in 2005, Texas released a couple of singles but not a new album and the bannd's activity is in hiatus since then. But Sharleen released her first solo album called "Melody" in 2008.
2009 is Texas' "Twentieth Anniversary (1989-2009)" so it was appropriate that they released an album or somehing.
