Knowing Madredeus
I had never heard of Madredeus or any other Portuguese band untill I saw the film " LISBON STORY " one of " Wim Wenders' " films. I saw this film in a television programme discussing and criticising films on one friday night. I heard that the music of this film had been done by a portuguese group called " Madredeus ". It reminded me of the city of Madrid then. Honestly the film was quite interesting itself but when I heard that crystalline magical voice I impatiently wanted to know the singer and was amazed by the atmosphere of that room which was filled with her beautiful voice. I was so absorbed to it that it was in my mind hours after the film was finished. It was then that I saw the beautiful Teresa.
This was the beginning of my story with such a beautiful music; the music with such a pleasant sadness atmosphere.
Music is the global language. It moves beyond language barrier, reaches everywere and finds its listeners. To me Madredeus' music, Teresa's clear voice and the melodies form a perfect example of the global music. I don't know Portuguese but it is not stopping me from enjoying such a lovely music.
